Wieslawa Walsh

Wieslawa Walsh, Supervisor, Kayem–I arrived in Chelsea from Poland in 1981. I was only 19. Kayem was my first job, working in a kitchen, making hot dogs. In a few months I was moved to a packing department. That was a little bit easier. Slowly I was learning English.Kayem promoted me to a team leader, then I became a manager. And from there on there was no stopping me. Now I am Supervisor of the continuous line.I was one of the first female supervisors in such a male dominated occupation. My job was not easy as a first female in management position, but I focused on the positive and I stood my ground. Kayem invested in my talent and this is why I’m here for 41 years. It’s like a family. You’re going to stay when you see that someone is interested in you, investing in you, giving you the opportunity. That’s the only way you’re going to stay
