Rotating Art Installations
Our flagship program is working with physical/built healthcare spaces to provide rotating art installations centered around issues of health equity.
While it would be great if every healthcare space had a paid employee dedicated specifically to the art in their space, most spaces cannot afford another $70,000/year position. If they could afford that role, and if that employee was dedicated to working with community artists, what would they do with all the art they purchase? That’s where we come in; for a fraction of the cost we are a one stop shop providing design, curation, installation, and related arts programming. Working with a network of sites in Massachusetts, we continually rotate our art installations, keeping our partner sites fresh. Similarly, as each installation is devoted to a different issue related to health equity, it provides a longitudinal message of inclusion while giving diverse voices the opportunity and room to be heard.

- Consultation Fees – One of the design team comes to the space, measures and photographs walls, and works with stakeholders at the site to develop final site design.
- Hardware – We routinely work with, install, and recommend the Arakawa CRJ railing system. This moderate weight art hanging system is capable of displaying pieces weighing up to 65 lbs on a single cable and up to 78 lbs on two cables. The cliprail cover can be painted to match the surrounding wall and the rail has a minimal form factor with a depth of 9/16″.
- Labor – Our scissor lift certified team of art installers will come, install the railing and hang the art.
- Administrative Fees – These fees allow us to continue to support our operations, pay artists, acquire new art, and provide free community programming.

heARTbeats – Music in Healthcare Spaces
Music plays a vital role in fostering comfort for both patients and hospital staff in healthcare settings. However, there are notable disparities in the types of music and performers available in these environments. One key factor contributing to this issue is the reliance on volunteer musicians. Just as it’s essential to compensate visual artists for their work, musicians also deserve to be paid for their contributions.
We partner with healthcare spaces to create paid opportunities (2 hour sets, $300/set) for working musicians in accordance with Whippoorwill Arts recommendations for ethical payment of working musicians.
