Revelry

Holi represents the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil. It is also said to be the enactment of a game the Hindu god Lord Krishna played with his beloved Radha and the gopis, or milkmaids. The story represents fun and flirtatiousness but also touches on deeper themes: the passing of the seasons and the illusory nature of the material world.

The two abstract paintings “Dancers’ and ‘Revelry’ capture the energy and the intimacy of the festival of Holi. They speak of friendship, people, community and festivities splashed in color. Dr. Pani’s oil paintings depict the colors and gestures of celebration.

Sidhartha Pani re-kindled his love for painting after taking a course at the Boston School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 2012. Since then, painting has become an integral part of life for this emerging artist.

Pani's passion for lively brushstrokes and use of texture sets his paintings apart from other contemporary artists. The use of rich, vibrant colors describes his subject matter in a uniquely energetic way. While much of his work has been representational, he has begun to explore abstraction. Pani has received much recognition for his artwork throughout New England.

Holi

Holi (Sanskrit: होली Holī) is a Hindu spring festival that is celebrated across the Indian subcontinent and by the greater South Asian diaspora across the world. Aside from being the festival of colors, Holi is a time to celebrate unbridled joy, love, and the triumph of good over evil. Through visual art, this installation highlights some of the spirit and traditions associated with Holi such as throwing colored powdered and spraying colored water through pichkari at friends and family and poojas (religious ceremonies).
